Character Archetypes
Avatar:The Last Airbender
The TV show that I chose is "Avatar: The Last Airbender". So I will explain more about the archetypes characters and their characteristics.
- The hero archetype (Aang):This character is a young man who used to live with monks from the South Air Temple, so he has no hair and had a blue arrow on his head that was the symbol of the air masters. He is a character that stands for the "avatar" who was the most powerful being on earth who would keep the peace of the 4 Nations and dominate the 4 elements that were water, air, fire, and earth. He, along with his friends, embarks on a journey in search of learning the elements since he only knew how to be an airbender and restore peace to the world. He also had the purpose of defeating the fire nation and killing the villain who was the king of that nation.
- The villain archetype (Lord Ozai):The villain of this TV show was Ozai. He is the most powerful firebender of all. He is the king of the Fire Nation, he is a bad character, who does not care about the lives of others and much less that of his family or children. He is a character who always sought to be the most powerful of the 4 Nations, he wanted everyone to fear him and to be his slaves. He wanted to kill the Avatar as he was a threat to his power or reign. He colonized many of the nations of the world and killed many people after several wars to gain more power. He was always against peace and was a very cruel king.
- The sidekick/ally archetype(Sokka):This character came from the Southern Water Tribe along with his sister. He is a character who had no powers or did not dominate any element (water, earth, fire, and air). He is a very brave character and he had an exceptionally good ability with the boomerang. This is a character who was always fighting and supporting Aang. He was always present in the hero's wars and fights. He also helped him multiple times in a psychological way. He was very naive but always looked to protect others. He was a very loyal friend who could sacrifice himself for others.
- The love interest/princess/damsel archetype (Katara): This character is a waterbender girl who came from the Southern Water Tribe. She is a character who is the partner of the hero since the hero fell in love with her from the beginning. She is a very brave, intelligent, and caring woman. She took part and helped the hero in his fights and advised and helped him in a spiritual way. She was the hero's greatest weakness. She used to help people and she looked to find her father and save her tribe from the Fire Nation. She also helped the Avatar to be a waterbender and taught him some tricks to attack and kill the Lord of Fire (Ozai).
- The wise man/ mentor archetype (Roku):He was a character who was born and believed in the Fire Nation alongside Ozai. He was an immensely powerful firebender and one of the past Avatars. So, he was not physically alive, but he was connected to Aang. He mastered the 4 elements (air, water, earth, and fire). He was an incredibly wise person and his spirit lived in Aang's mind and body. So, he was a character who constantly helps him and advised Aang. Also, other past Avatars helped him but was Roku the main one. He always had good intentions and motivated Aang not to give up and save the 4 nations. He taught everything he knew to Aang and his experiences.
- The trickster archetype (Zuko):This character was the prince of the Fire Nation, but was exiled by his father. So, he sought the approval of his father and decided to seek out and try to kill Avatar Aang to regain his honor. He was a powerful firebender. He was an incredibly sad character and he was not trustworthy. He was always very suspicious and always tried to look bad, but he was a good person on the inside. He always tried to spoil Aang's missions or purposes. He is a character who had a lot of anger and hatred towards people and especially himself. Everything he did went wrong and he was very desperate. In the end, he helped Aang and taught him to be a firebender. Many times, he altered the peace and order of the different nations and did not let Aang many times fulfill his goals or have successful conclusions.
